Vivaldi 6.9 arrives as a version focused on efficiency and bug fixes

Vivaldi 6.9

Yesterday I skimmed through an article that talked about the 15th anniversary of Mac OS X Snow Leopard. It mentioned that Apple introduced it as an update with 0 new features, and that they had spent a lot of time fixing what they had released two years ago. For years, and perhaps even today, Snow Leopard was remembered by many as the best version of Apple's desktop system. Today, they have presented Vivaldi 6.9 and it has been impossible for me not to think about this.

The browser named after a famous composer usually introduces flashy features with each release. To give a few examples, the mail/RSS/calendar or the inclusion of a function very similar to the Dark Reader extension that Force dark mode on web pagesWith so many changes and new things, it is logical to think that at some point They have to slow down the pace and even stop, and that's pretty much what they've done in Vivaldi 6.9.

Vivaldi 6.9 improves tab management

But Vivaldi Technologies is not Apple, and they wouldn't release anything new with 0 features. The changes in Vivaldi 6.9 start with the Possibility to rename tabsUntil now we could rename groups, but this feature has been extended to individual tabs.

For those of you who aren't like me, who have a "Downloads" folder because you don't delete it and download everything to the desktop — to delete it when you finish the task —, Vivaldi 6.9 has introduced another new feature that will make you more productive: it is now possible to Drag and drop directly from the download panel. What we have downloaded can be moved or left in any location or application that supports it, such as folders or email clients. On second thought, it will be useful for me too, since it doesn't take into account where I download it.

Another small change has come to the view of synchronized tabs, so subtle that at first I didn't see the difference. In 6.8 we can already see the tabs synchronized with other computers in the "Window" panel, but in 6.9 we will see more detailed information, including fixed tabs and batteries.

And fixes and performance improvements

The rest of the new features are bug fixes and performance improvements. Mail and calendar are down to about 40 patches, and they have taken advantage of the release of Vivaldi 6.9 to fix a bit of everything. There are a couple of new features in the blocker, and since the subject is on the subject, and as we approach a future in which Manifest v3 will load many extensions, I think they have to start thinking about the Vivaldi blocker.

It's good, no one denies that, but if we make the odious comparison with Brave, the lion's browser allows us to create rules with our own selector - based on uBlock -, which is very useful. It would be nice if they added something like that to Vivaldi, and also something to delete elements without creating the rule. If everything was synchronized in the cloud, that would be perfect.

Vivaldi 6.9 It is now available, also for Windows ARM, from your official website. Linux distributions that already had it installed and added the official repository should have already seen the update jump. They should soon update the flatpak pack.
