TheSSS (The Smallest Server Suite) is an operating system for deploying a lightweight server suite based on a live CD/USB. It is based on GNU/Linux, specifically the 4MLinux server. TheSSS version 23.1 uses 4MLinux 23.1, creating an ISO image that integrates numerous packages to enable the services you need: DNS, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, MySQL, SFTP, SMTP, SHH, Telnet, etc. You can also set up your own proxy server (Polipo with Tor) and activate firewall security systems based on iptables and Clam AntiVirus.
Zbigniew Knojacki, one of the developers, was in charge of announcing this new release of the distribution. We also learned some details about the packages and the integrated kernel. The kernel is specifically Linux 4.9.61 LTS , making it a fairly modern kernel with numerous new features and drivers for modern hardware. Other important packages have been updated to more recent versions, such as OpenSSL 1.0.2m for implementing the SSL protocol, Postfix 3.2.4 for mail servers, Stunnel 5.43, and others.
The database server has also been updated to MariaDB version 10.2.10, the web server to Apache 2.4.29, and PHP packages 7.0.25 and 5.6.32, the latest available for compatibility reasons. In short, everything you need to implement a brand-new LAMP server (Linux – Apache – MySQL or alternatives – PHP/Perl), which is in such high demand and essential. Furthermore, you should know that installing the distribution is a simple and automated process, so you shouldn't encounter too many problems. And if you already have a previous version installed, you can update with the `zk update` command.
The update will also be automatic , so once you run the program, you won't have to do anything else. Furthermore, since it's a Live version, you can run it without installing anything—everything ready to try.
