A little over a month ago, the App Center Ubuntu changed its image. Did on Ubuntu 24.04, currently in development, but also on the latest stable version, 23.10 at the time of writing. Threads were opened asking about the change, later we found out that it was a bug and shortly after returned to normal. The trip has been one way, one way and another, since in the last few hours we have a new icon, but this change seems to be maintained. And the destination, although different from the origin, is a third point.
In the same way as last time, if we move to the App Center GitHub page, we see that there is a c in which it is described la removal of the old logo and addition of the new one. If you look at the images, both the previous one and the current one have a lighter part at the bottom, something that I had not seen until today. The bag has gone from being something more like a suitcase to one that looks more like a shopping bag.
The Application Center changes its look
What is the general design remains consistent with the default Ubuntu theme, unlike the one in the bug which was a flat image. And it is expected to be like this starting with Ubuntu 24.04.
To see the new icon, you have to type sudo snap refresh on Ubuntu 24.04; In previous versions of the Canonical operating system, the icon and previous store versions continue. What does not change and will not change is that it is still a store in snap format, which prioritizes this type of packages and does not support flatpak packages.
Ubuntu 24.04 Noble Numbat will arrive on April 25 with the main new features GNOME 46 released last week and the kernel Linux 6.8.
