The Valve platform is having a lot of success and it is not for less because it offers a large catalog of video games for Gnu / Linux. Steam has a version for Windows, macOS and for Gnu / Linux although possibly in the not too distant future, there is only a single platform.
Apparently future versions of Steam will make it possible for Windows games to work on Gnu / Linux. This new feature has been announced and is already tested in the development version of Steam. As many Gnu/Linux users do, Steam will use Wine, an emulator that will have the client inserted in its core in order to offer this emulation. This will make any Windows game we buy or have usable on a Gnu / Linux computer.
What Valve offers with its Steam client is nothing new, but it does will make many users stop cracking their heads when configuring Wine for your favorite games to work on Gnu / Linux. Valve has already reported that several games are already compatible with this Steam functionality and that we can use it on any Gnu / Linux distribution.
Little by little, Steam will make all Windows games work and are optimized to work on Gnu / Linux, but at the moment they are not all. Although we have to say that within the Steam client in its development version it has an option that allows us to install any Windows game that is not within that games whitelist fully compatible, but this option is still pure wine, that is, it may or may not work.
I don't really know what possibilities this new function will offer, that is, if it will contribute something new to the ecosystem that Wine is not offering, but in any case it will make more than one user start to remove the fear of the Penguin platform, something that does not leave to be positive Do not you think?
