Manjaro 2022-02-27 arrives with GNOME 41.4 and Plasma 5.24.2 as the most outstanding novelties

On February 14th, this popular Arch Linux-based distribution released a new stable version, but with so few truly significant new features that one might think the release was simply due to the holiday, at least for those who choose to celebrate it. Today they released Manjaro 2022-02-27 , and based solely on the headline, we can't say the same as we did less than two weeks ago.

While a Linux-based operating system has many components, what usually attracts the most attention is the announcement of a new kernel version or a new graphical environment. Manjaro, on February 27, 2022, released new versions of the two most popular desktop environments: GNOME (41.4) and KDE (Plasma 5.24.2 ) , now in its second maintenance update.

Highlights of Manjaro 2022-02-27

  • Most of the Kernels have been updated, the newest being Linux 5.16.7-1.
  • New Toolchain that many people had expected.
  • The Nvidia driver has been updated to 510.54.
  • Plasma has its second version for the 5.24 series, another way of saying that Plasma 5.24.2 is included.
  • Firefox has a new beta version.
  • The man pages have been updated to 4.13.
  • AMDVLK is in 2022.Q1.3.
  • KDE Frameworks is now at 5.91.0 (sudo dolphin It should already be possible, but it isn't in Manjaro).
  • Wine 7.2. brings more thematic fixes. We remember that the WINE 7 series is the development one; the stable one is still 6.
  • GNOME has been updated to 41.4.
  • Linux-Firmware has been renewed.
  • Gstreamer is now at 1.20.0.
  • Pipewire is at 0.3.47.
  • Mesa is now at 21.3.7.
  • libxcrypt got backwards compatibility.

Manjaro 2022-02-27 is a new stable version, and is now available to install from Pamac or with the sudo command pacman -Syu. In the Manjaro community, the purists like to do it with Pacman via the terminal, but lately Pamac handles some bugs better, or that's my impression, so I would recommend doing it with the Manjaro software, either via the terminal or with the GUI application. Let's do it as we do it, we already have a new stable version. And although the download page has not been updated, there are new Manjaro 21.2.4 ISOs that can be downloaded from here.
