Kirta, the famous free software that we have talked about so many times in this blog, has now launched a new campaign that seems to give clues to the news that this software will bring thanks to the slogan «Let's make Text and Vector Art Awesome«. A sponsorship campaign that is very popular for what will come in this digital drawing and painting software that has little to envy to other closed and paid projects.
Krita has surprises in store for 2016, something that has been common in this software that is one of the most respected projects within free software due to its professionalism and relevance. Step by step it has evolved from within KDE to become a great project independent of the Calligra suite and that lovers of digital design love above other alternatives such as PhotoShop, etc., thanks to its flexibility and advanced tools for its mission.
Krita this time does not claim to be faster than Adobe PhotoShop or to develop basic animation support, bug fixes and other simple implementations, it is about setting ambitious goals for 2016 which are: improve text editing and vector graphics support. For this, a new text tool will be implemented, which until now is shared as the Calligra office suite.
What the developers want is to optimize the new text tool to eliminate unnecessary elements and add new complex functionalities for create posters, comics, or card games. But it will be easy to use and will offer advanced features for controlling fonts, writing in different senses, new styles, languages, adding scripts, etc. And then there's the vector graphics enhancement part of replacing ODG with the SVG standard.
