The GStreamer project has announced a new update to its renowned open-source, multi-device platform, GStreaer 1.26.4With this release, we take a step forward in the stability and functionality of one of the most widely used multimedia tools in professional and personal environments for managing and processing audio and video.
This release introduces relevant new features just a few weeks after the previous update, including the integration of TAI (Temps Atomique International) timestamps into the mp4mux utility, which facilitates the multiplexing of audio and video tracks in MP4 files, as well as the incorporation of room time control in LiveKit, the scalable WebRTC-based conferencing solution.
Main improvements and technical updates in GStreamer 1.26.4
Among the highlights, GStreamer now adds compatibility with various memory formats YCbCr has been added to the gtk4paintablesink component, and details such as profile ID, level, and level flag have been added to the RTP output in the rtph265pay module. Similarly, the ability to add or remove monitors within device management has been implemented in d3d12screencapture, expanding the capture options on Windows.

Stability, performance and fixes
Internal optimization and fixes have also been made: SVC spatial decoding processing for vp9parse has been improved, negotiation issues with certain profiles in VTEnc have been resolved, and rtpbin2's efficiency has been increased by removing race conditions. A potential crash when setting up remote decoding in webrtcsink has also been eliminated.
