Firefox is a popular web browser
It seems that this has been the week of canceled releases por error issues and in previous articles we talked about Ardor 8.6 that arrived instead of version 8.5 and now Firefox 125.0.1 which was released instead of Firefox 125. This release was canceled due to issues identified at a late stage, and version 125.0.1 was released as the official version instead.
The new version of Firefox 125.0.1 now was released along with the ESR version of Firefox 115.10.0 and in this release that is presented, improvements have been incorporated in the PDF viewer, the ability to have a proxy, changes in the behavior of buttons, improvements for the developer tools and more.
What's new in Firefox 125.0.1?
The key new features in Firefox 125.0.1 include improvements to the built-in PDF viewer which now allows highlighting text with colors and borders selected by default, as well as a change in radio button behavior to skip unselected options by pressing the Tab key, focusing only on the first option and allowing navigation with the arrow keys.

Another new feature that Firefox 125.0.1 presents is the address bar in which it has been implemented support for searching tabs in different containers on systems with plugins that implement tab containers, also a quick navigation to a link saved in the clipboard by clicking on the address bar, where the clipboard URL will be displayed as an initial recommendation. When filling out addresses in web forms, a request to save the address is provided (for now only for users in the US and Canada).
The Firefox View page in version 125.0.1 makes it easy to access to previously viewed content by showing pinned tabs in the section with open tabs. Additionally, support has been added for status indicators that allow you to clearly identify which tabs are playing audio or video, and also added indicators for bookmarks and notifications, These indicators help to more effectively manage activities in tabs and improve the browsing experience in Firefox.

We can also find in Firefox 125.0.1 the support for playback of protected content using the AV1 codec, used by some streaming providers for high-quality content and a configuration option to automatically detect the presence of a proxy using the WPAD (Web Proxy Auto-Discovery) protocol, despite system proxy settings.
In the version of Android, theme settings for tabs have been introduced, menu improvements with login and password options, i“Open in app” button control when Firefox is selected as the system PDF viewer.
For the part of developer improvements:
- Blocking file downloads from URLs in lists of potentially dangerous content.
- It is now possible to create elements that display on top of other web interface elements, such as action menus, form prompts, learning interfaces, and content capture.
- Wasm modules can now use and import multiple independent linear memory areas.
- Added support for segmenting text on a line based on locale, useful for languages that do not use whitespace to separate words.

How to install or update the new version of Firefox on Linux?
Firefox users who have not disabled automatic updates will receive the update automatically. Those who don't want to wait for that to happen can select Menu> Help> About Firefox after the official launch to initiate a manual update of the web browser.
The screen that opens displays the currently installed version of the web browser and runs a check for updates, provided the functionality is enabled.
Another option to update, is yes you are a user of Ubuntu, Linux Mint or some other derivative of Ubuntu, You can install or update to this new version with the help of the browser's PPA.
This can be added to the system by opening a terminal and executing the following command in it:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa -y sudo apt-get update sudo apt install firefox
You can also choose to install by following the instructions provided by Mozilla.
In the case of Arch Linux users and derivatives, just run in a terminal:
sudo pacman -Syu
Or to install with:
sudo pacman -S firefox
Another method of installing Firefox on Linux is with the help of the "Flatpak" packages. To do this, they must have support for this type of packages.

flatpak install flathub org.mozilla.firefox
