Yesterday we were able to meet as one of the most beautiful distributions of all released a new version: Elementary OS Freya. Elementary OS is based on Ubuntu but unlike the rest of the distributions, Elementary OS seeks simplicity, beauty and a style similar to MacOS that not only allows us to give the appearance of Mac OS but also its functionality.
Elementary OS Freya has had many problems to see the light, since after the various costs involved in bringing a version forward, it happened that the first nickname of the version, Isis, coincided with a terrorist group.
Now we can enjoy Elementary OS Freya, a version that not only incorporates a new design but also new programs and more functionalities such as the compatibility of Fies, its file manager with samba or the new redesign of notifications.
The Elementary OS team has added new programs to Pantheon, the distribution desktop. These programs are "Calculator", "Videos" and "Camera", programs that join other basic ones such as Photos. As you can see, all of them try to imitate the functionality of a Mac. But the inclusion of its own programs does not mean that Elementary OS Freya does not have third-party software. By default Geary, Simple Scan and Document Viewer will be incorporated, programs that will help us in our daily work.
Elementary OS Freya is available for 32 Bit and 64 Bit systems
Elementary OS Freya will have support for UEFI and will continue to offer two versions, one for 32-bit systems and another version for 64-bit systems. As we have said, Elementary OS Freya is based on Ubuntu 14.04 and incorporates the 3.16 kernel as well as the Xserver 1.51 server.
In order to obtain the download image, we can go through your official website and we will see the direct link for download. A priori it will ask us to make a donation, do not worry since these amounts do not have to be paid, either you donate or if you cannot donate, in the personalized donation we insert the amount of "0" and you will be shown the direct links to download.
If you have not tried Elementary OS and you are looking for a simple distribution, this may be your distribution, otherwise you will always have Linux Mint, although I would personally recommend giving this distribution a second chance, why not?
