The developers of this Linux distribution for advanced users have released Arch Linux 2020.01.01. The new version, which as we will explain later is designed for new installations, comes with the main novelty of the kernel Linux 5.4, a kernel that was released at the end of the year that just ended. The rest of the news, as usual, are also related to new versions of the software used by one of the most popular Linux distributions.
To be more specific, the kernel they have included in Arch Linux 2020.01.01 is Linux 5.4.6, which until recently was the last stable version (currently it is v5.4.8 of the kernel). Among the new functions included in the new kernel we have the controversial security module known as "Lockdown", but the developer team has not mentioned if they have activated the function or have left it deactivated as it arrives by default. It also improves support for Microsoft's exFAT file system and improves memory management in Android.
Arch Linux 2020.01.01 is, as always, a Rolling Release
As we had previously explained, Arch Linux 2020.01.01 is actually the latest ISO image of the operating system and is designed only for new installations or, what is the same, reinstalling the system. Arch Linux uses an update model known as rolling release, which means that after a first installation, you will receive the updates forever from the same operating system.
Arch Linux 2020.01.01 includes all the updates that the operating system has included in the last month, including updated packages, security patches and latest versions of the applications.
Interested users can download the new ISO image from this link. Existing users will receive or should have already received all updates included in this ISO. To be sure, you can always open a terminal and type the updates command "sudo pacman -Syu".
The Lockdown takes the grace out of linux, but hey, the compatibility with Exfat and android files is appreciated.
