WINE 11.6 begins to revive the Android driver and introduces more than 200 changes

WineHQ has released a new development version of its software for running Windows applications on other operating systems, with Linux being the biggest beneficiary. has given us es WINE 11.6And it has arrived, two weeks after the earlier versionThis comes at a time when many people are on vacation around the world. While the number of bug fixes and overall changes hasn't been particularly noticeable, the list of highlights is rather underwhelming.

This list of highlights includes the beginnings of reviving the Android driver (this is more significant), DLL load order heuristics to better support game mods, and more VBScript compatibility fixes, along with the usual array of bug fixes. In total, they've fixed 28 bugs, listed below, and implemented a total of 261 changes.

Bugs fixed in WINE 11.6

  • Error in findfirst/findnext.
  • Win3.1 Notepad crashes when opening a large file.
  • Homesite+ (v5.5): The radio button in the Search dialog box is not set correctly when using the keyboard shortcut (Alt+U).
  • StarOffice51 crashes when opening a file.
  • Wine blocks some programs if compiled with AVX support.
  • .NET application settings are never saved.
  • The Google Earth installer is mostly displayed in black.
  • DigiCertUtil displays an incorrect window size.
  • chakra.dll is missing to run Minecraft Windows 10 Edition.
  • The NSFW game "Creature reaction inside the ship! 1.5" stops the videos after they repeat several times.
  • The PDFSam installer displays an empty language list.
  • Several applications fail to run on Wine 10.3 because they incorrectly detect a running debugger (DVDFab, DCS World updater).
  • HWiNFO 8.24 does not work unless winecfg is set to Windows 7.
  • fw_manager_IsPortAllowed is not implemented.
  • Treeview with TVS_CHECKBOXES iterates through all image states with a non-zero index.
  • pdf-xchange editor v10.8.4.409 crashes on startup.
  • WINHTTP_OPTION_SERVER_CERT_CHAIN_CONTEXT is missing.
  • Commit 20b34866 breaks the Mount & Blade: Warband online multiplayer server list.
  • The Neko Project emulator no longer works with a 96 kHz sampling rate (Gentoo Linux).
  • Buhl Tax 2026 displays a blank preview and crashes when creating geometry.
  • ICU DLLs cause some games to crash (Cyberpunk 2077).
  • DOAXVV (DMM version) does not start due to a network error.
  • D3D11 interoperability features required for Gecko-based browsers are missing.
  • VICE: The GTK version of x64sc.exe crashes on startup.
  • printf does not support the %Z specifier.
  • Regression introduced by decompression support in winhttp.
  • EIZO ColorNavigator 6 crashes due to the unimplemented function mscms.dll.WcsGetCalibrationManagementState.
  • Regression in 11.5: The in-game menu shop in Diablo IV is no longer accessible.

Wine 11.6 is now available for download from the button below. Its download page also contains information on how to install this and other versions on Linux operating systems, as well as others like macOS and even Android.

In two weeks, if the usual schedule holds and nothing suggests otherwise, WINE 11.7 will arrive, also with dozens of changes to prepare for WINE 12.0, which, based on past releases, will arrive in early 2027. This pace will continue until the end of the year, when the release frequency will increase to weekly Release Candidates, then stable (WINE 12), and then development of WINE 13.0 will begin.
