WINE 11.0-rc2 arrives fixing 28 bugs

  • WINE 11.0-rc2 is now available with few changes.

WineHQ launched WINE 11.0-rc2The second Release Candidate for the next stable version of the software for running Windows applications on other operating systems. The fact that they haven't provided a list of featured features suggests we're already in an important phase, as they're currently in the code freeze. Last week, in the rc1While there were several highlights, everything provided this week consists of lists of fixed bugs and general changes.

Those lists show 28 bugs that have been fixed, those in the following list, and a total of 65 changesThey are far fewer than those performed during the development phase, but within what one would expect.

Bugs fixed in WINE 11.0-rc2

  • .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 installers, and other applications that use the GAC API for installing managed assemblies on NTFS file systems, require support for the reparse/junction point API (FSCTL_SET_REPARSE_POINT/FSCTL_GET_REPARSE_POINT).
  • VMR9: Owner and clipping tool
  • IndyCar Series freezes on start
  • After update 7.13, components in pop-ups, sliders, and buttons are not working in ThumbsPlus 10 Pro
  • Incoming (game): It freezes after the intro video
  • The 64-bit uxtheme system fails on Windows 10 2004+
  • Evil Under the Sun (French version) freezes when starting a new game
  • PlayOnline Viewer crashes when WINE is compiled without gstreamer support
  • MS Office 2013: The File drop-down menu panel is behind the editing page
  • ChessBase 18 freezes or stops accepting input a few seconds after starting
  • Breath of Fire IV and Ys VI get stuck in the opening video
  • Ys Origin: Videos play upside down
  • Heroes of the Storm does not start
  • Steam: Unable to display intended interface windows because steamwebhelper is unresponsive
  • Melonloader exits with an error code
  • Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun (C&C Red Alert II): a black rectangle appears instead of displaying the menus
  • Basic Windows combo boxes randomly lose entries
  • Maximized windows cannot be minimized in KDE
  • The Mario Multiverse demo freezes on startup
  • Splinter Cell: The intro video window is invisible
  • Forms in certain programs redraw very slowly
  • The Ubisoft Connect window is completely broken.
  • Several GL driver errors, out of memory (OOM), and 32-bit locks after 4286e07f
  • The itch.io client displays an empty white window upon startup
  • Earth 2150 does not play video
  • Worms Revolution only displays a black screen
  • Minimizing Notepad to full screen and restoring it produces a black window
  • Memory leak in lookup_unix_name

Now available

WINE 11.0-rc2 is now available for download from the button below. Its download page also contains information on how to install this and other versions on Linux operating systems, as well as others like macOS and even Android.

Next week, if the usual schedule holds and there's no reason to think otherwise, WINE 11.0-rc3 will arrive, also without a featured list, only mentioning that it's now available. The stable version will be released in early 2026.
