I wouldn't have bet on these dates, but I'm not part of the Wine Is Not an Emulator development team and I don't know the timelines! In previous years there have been at least two more development versions (the last one was the v10.20), but this 2025 they have decided that it is a good time to lanzar WINE 11.0-rc1This is the first stable release candidate, and from now on they will release a new RC every week until the stable release.
In previous years, Release Candidates coincided with the code freeze, and WineHQ didn't provide a list of new features. We don't know if that will be the case next week, but WINE 11.0-rc1 does provide a changelog. Among the changes, the Mono engine has been upgraded to version 10.4.0, localization data has been updated to Uncode CLDR 48, and support for the TWAINDSM module for scanners has been added, along with the usual miscellaneous bug fixes. In numbers, 178 changes have been made and corrected 17 bugs, those in the following list.
Bugs fixed in WINE 11.0-rc1
- King's Quest: Mask of Eternity requires MCIWndCreate to create a child window when a parent is specified.
- HeapSize(GetProcessHeap(), 0, GlobalLock(hGlobal)) should execute correctly (samples from wxWidgets, Tapps2, DirMaster).
- Gramps 5.2.0 displays empty windows.
- The installation of Photoshop CS2 never finishes.
- mmdevapi notify_thread performs active wait when no MIDI controller can be loaded.
- win32u:input: Performance regression in Resident Evil 2 due to internal message processing.

- Incorrect casting in .NET 10 Runtime applications.
- cmd does not handle all parameters in the FOR /F command.
- Oblivion crashes with an unhandled page fault: wine 10.19.
- The Office 2013 File menu does not open.

- Several WinForms tests related to focus fail on virtual desktop.
Now available
WINE 11.0-rc1 is now available for download from the button below. Its download page also contains information on how to install this and other versions on Linux operating systems, as well as others like macOS and even Android.
Next week, if the usual schedule holds and nothing suggests otherwise, WINE 11.0-rc2 will arrive, possibly without a changelog, simply stating that it's available. The stable version will be released in early 2026.
