Windows 10 refuses to die in Europe. It will last at least another year.

  • Windows 10 will continue to be around for another year in Europe.
  • The European Community requires the extension.

Windows 10, one more year in Europe

In my opinion, the European Community is a real pain for users on the old continent, but there are times when it benefits us. That will happen again in a few days, when Microsoft was planning to leave. Windows 10 to bet everything on Windows 11. It's the normal cycle of life and any development, but the death of Windows 10 won't come to everyone at the same time.

On October 14, Microsoft will "bury" Windows 10, but it will remain alive and kicking in Europe. The company led by Satya Nadella has enabled an option for users of the previous version of Windows to continue using it for at least another year. All you have to do is sign in with a Microsoft account., which will allow access to updates for an additional 365 days. This decision was made following pressure from multiple European organizations, and users in the European Economic Area will be able to remain on the version of Windows they weren't willing to abandon.

Windows 10 will continue to receive security patches in Europe

What has changed in Europe? Basically, The operating system will continue to receive security patches during that extra year. There won't be any new features as such, but if a serious flaw is detected, Microsoft will release a patch to fix it in Europe.

Is it worth staying? Yes. The system won't receive any new features, but it will remain protected. On the other hand, it's unlikely that companies like Google, Adobe, and other major tech companies will decide to forget about Windows 10 so soon in a year. They'll forget and shed some of the ballast, but later.

For some context, Windows 7 ended official support on January 14, 2020, and the Chrome browser discontinued that version in February 2023. So, if the tenth version of the Windows system runs well on a computer and the user likes it, it's worth taking advantage of the extra year.

Other countries, like the US, aren't so lucky, and on October 14th, they'll have to upgrade to Windows 11 or worry about a security flaw being detected. Yes, they'll still be able to use the apps, but they'll be less protected unless they use business licenses or similar options.

Good for Europe… this time.
