  • Vivaldi 8.0 is now available for download and installation.
  • The most notable new feature is the new unified design.

Vivaldi 8.0

When we talk about a program that introduces a large number of interesting features in each version, such as the one that hides all the panels in 7.9Seeing that one of them only has a couple of items might seem surprising and leave us wanting more. And that's because today has arrived Vivaldi 8.0And the list of new features is basically reduced to two, or at least the most notable ones. However, one of the changes will be noticeable as soon as you open the browser after updating.

The most notable new feature is that They have launched a new coola design they've called "unified." As they explain—since I haven't been able to test it myself because it hasn't yet arrived on Linux—until now the layers were subtly separated, which was practical but more chaotic. Starting with Vivaldi 8.0, «All the toolbars reside on the same surface: a unified frame that completely surrounds the browser."As a result, the interface will be more consistent, more coherent, and easier to read."

New unified design of Vivaldi 8.0

When you choose a theme, it is applied to the entire window. For example, when you choose a wallpaper, it extends to the tab bar, panels, and other areas. There are four default themes: Vivaldi, Soria Morina, Sunset Forest (the dark theme), and Zen.

The other highlight that comes with Vivaldi 8.0 is designed for new users or existing users starting a fresh installation. Also available in Settings/Appearance/Predefined Themes, but intended for beginners, there's a new window that shows six different distributions: simple, classic, vertical (with vertical tabs), Auto Hide (for the immersive interface introduced in Vivaldi 7.9), Vertical to the right and down (with tabs at the bottom).

This change won't matter too much to those of us who have been using an installation for a long time, since we already have it set up to our liking, but it will be beneficial in new installations.

Vivaldi 8.0 has also introduced minor improvements that are available in the Change LogFor users with a Debian-based distribution that includes the official repository, the new version should already be available, and the same goes for the snap package. The flatpak version, which is uploaded by a contributor but not verified until further notice, will be updated shortly.
