Ubuntu 24.04 will debut a new logo for the application drawer on the twentieth anniversary of the operating system

New icon in the Ubuntu 24.04 app drawer

When KDE He launched the beta version of their operating system, I spent days testing it. neon shows the Plasma icon in the start menu, and I liked the operating system icon, so one of the first things I did was enter editing mode, look for the KDE neon logo and put it. Doctors don't cure manias, and it seems that this is one of mine. Ubuntu shows 9 squares in grid, but that will change in Ubuntu 24.04.

Not everyone likes the changes equally, but while applying the latest Daily Build update of Ubuntu 24.04 I saw what the header image shows: in the app drawer, that is, the icon that you have to click to enter the installed applications view has changed and now we have the Ubuntu logo. Or also Canonical, since the same one has been used for a long time for both the company and the operating system. And yes, it is the "new" one for 2022.

Custom app drawer in Ubuntu 24.04

The last update of the Daily Build, at least in my case, has been quite large, and from what I have been able to see Yaru has been updated. The default Ubuntu theme receives regular updates, and not all of them are noticeable. The new icon is part of this update, at least for Ubuntu, as we see in this GitHub commit. The icon can be found at /usr/share/icons/Yaru/scalable/actions with the same name as always, that is, as view-app-grid-symbolic.svg. If someone wants to recover the previous icon or change it to another one, it is that file that they must modify, but not before making a backup copy.

Change in Yaru theme

As for operation, everything remains the same. It is still a button with which we can see the installed apps and no effect or anything similar has been included.

Ubuntu 24.04 is coming next April 25 and it will do so with Linux 6.8 and GNOME 46 as the main new features. That and new logo always visible.
