Ubuntu 23.10 updates the language pack and the Application Center is now 100% functional

Ubuntu App Center with Snap and Deb Support

C'est fini. Finale. It's over. I am perfectly aware that there will be users with a certain level of hate (I don't say hate because I think it's not the same) who will be sick of reading about the new App Center (App Center in English) that will arrive in Manic Minotaur, but I think that the store where you get the apps is an important part of an operating system, and therefore the related news as well. Two days ago we informed that support for DEB packages had already arrived, but there are still things to polish. And today we come to say that that work is already done.

In last Sunday's article we already said that we smelled that there would be something, yet to be implemented, that would allow us search for snap applications and Debian packages somehow, and we were not wrong. Yes in the how, which would be indicating something in the search box, but not in the what: as seen in the screenshot, when doing any search, matches appear in the drop-down menu. At the top, we expected no less, the snap packages appear, but at the bottom the Debian packages.

Ubuntu App Center appears to be complete now

All of this, or part of it, is possible thanks to the update of the Ubunu language pack. The snap store The App Center has also been updated in the last two days and It already appears to be 90% complete. It works, it works, but, for example, in the "Manage" section everything is in English, except the header text and the "Check for updates" button. But support for Debian packages has already arrived and works in any language, or at least in Spanish.

App Center, that this is his original name and what we see in “About…” is a store that highly prioritizes snap packages. While it is true that you can find and install Debian packages, they do not appear in the Explore, Featured and other sections. Everything we find from here are snap packages, and DEBs only appear if we search for them. It is clear that it is done on purpose, so that those who are not up to date with everything related to Linux end up installing Canonical's proprietary packages.

But the App Center is already taking its final form, and we believe that there will not be a new episode about this series. If there is, it's probably bad news.
