Mozilla is working on a new design for its Firefox browser. It's been over two months since they updated the settings page , and the next change will be more noticeable and will affect the overall design. The redesign is called Nova , and you can already try it out in your Firefox if you're using a recent version. The change is available, but it won't be officially rolled out until they decide it's the right time.
As with many of the features we'll see in the future, the change is made quickly from about:config , that settings page where you have to be quite careful because you could break something. The good news is that to activate Nova, we'll only have to make one tweak. Let us explain.
Activate Nova in a recent version of Firefox
Nova is already enabled by default in Firefox Nightly , so anyone using the preview version of the browser who doesn't like it can undo the change and revert to the current design. To enable Nova in a recent version of Firefox, and it's possible in at least the latest stable version, go to the aforementioned about:config page (accessible from the URL bar), accept the warning message, and search for browser.nova.enabled . Then, toggle the switch to apply the changes.
There's no need to restart your browser. The change will be immediate. Among other things, the status bar will appear translucent, and the tabs will become more rounded, as seen in the header screenshot. The pop-up menus will also appear more rounded, and the accent color seems to take on a more prominent role on Linux-based operating systems.
Nova isn't official yet, but it will be in the coming months. There's no confirmed date yet, but you can already try it out as we've explained here.
