Ubuntu 26.04 now has a calendar and roadmap. So, barring any unforeseen setbacks, we now know when everything related to the raccoon issue will be resolved, although one thing is hardly surprising: it will arrive in April 2026. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone even remotely familiar with the Linux world, as they should know that Ubuntu numbers its versions with the first number representing the year, the second the month, and, in the case of LTS versions, a third period indicating revisions. This is accompanied by the animal's name.
Without a doubt, the most important day on the calendar is the release date of the stable version. If that's the information you're looking for, we won't keep you waiting any longer: April 23th 2026If you are also interested in other events, those on the following list are the most outstanding.
Ubuntu 26.04 Calendar
- February 19: feature freeze and import freeze from Debian.
- March 12: UI freeze.
- March 19: Kernel function freeze and documentation chain freeze.
- March 23: vein and HWE freeze.
- March 26: Beta launch.
- April 9: kernel freeze.
- April 16: Final freeze and Release Candidate.
- April 23: Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Resolution Raccoon release.
That's the current schedule. If there are any setbacks, there could be changes.
It's also worth noting that the main flavor will use GNOME 50, which will arrive in late February or early March (the beta will be released on January 29). Python 3.14, which should be the default version, will arrive on January 8.
Little is known at this point about what new features it will bring. The kernel should be Linux 6.19, since 26.04 is an LTS release, and I wouldn't bet my money on them daring to upgrade to Linux 7.0 if it arrives in time.
In any case, we already have an arrival date for this raccoon and it will be April 23, 2026.
