Firefox keeps getting better. Possibly, and even likely, not as fast as some would like, but the red panda browser keeps rolling out new features every four weeks. Bounce Tracking Protection was introduced in v133, the most recent stable version, and Beta, Dev, and Nightly versions serve as a testbed for what's to come. If nothing happens, one feature we'll see soon is the ability to track and retrieve data from the browser. tab groups.
In fact, this novelty already has reached stable version, but is disabled. It can be activated from about: config, and if it is something essential, the best thing to do is to activate it manually now. Although it could still be improved in the future — for example, by being translated into different languages — if we were to encounter any errors, re-entering the system is as simple as performing the steps once again, as explained below.
How to create tab groups in Firefox
If I'm correct, tab groups are available from Firefox 133, a version that arrived at the end of November. To activate them, just do the following:
- In the URL bar, we put about: config.
- If it is the first time we enter or we have already entered but have not unchecked the notice, we accept it.
- Now we seek browser.tabs.groups.enabled and on the right, click on the icon that looks like a two-way arrow, which will activate the function. On the right, a curved arrow will appear that will be used to revert the changes.
And that would be it. To create a new tab group, you have to do Right click on one and choose “Add Tab to Group”At the time of writing this article, the text is in English. If we have not created any group, only this option appears, and by selecting it we can enter a name and choose a color. In the example image, I put “Blogs” and there are two tabs, one for this medium and the other for one of our sister blogs. If we already have a group created, it can be added to one of them.
When a tab is in a group, right-clicking on it also brings up “Remove from Group”, which will remove the tab from the group. And, as we explained, if we want to go back we just have to follow the steps above, but this time clicking on the revert button.
When will the feature be available in stable form?
It is not known. Although the option appears in about: config, the most advanced version, currently 135 of the Nightly channel, it is still disabled. It looks like it will take at least 12 weeks, but if anyone needs it, it can already be activated as we have explained here.
