A new version of the operating system for the Steam Deck and the upcoming Steam Machine is now available, and although today's news doesn't mention it, it's always worth keeping in mind. It's available two months after the... earlier version, Steam OS 3.7.19 It can now be downloaded from the Parameters/System/Updates section for those of us on the stable channel. It comes with a short list of new featuresBut as I always say, no update is insignificant if it ends up fixing a bug we're experiencing.
The first thing we find on the changelog is a Correction to a regression in the game recording tool whereby the video stream would stop mid-clipI'm not sure if this is exactly what I've been experiencing these past few months, but it was common for recordings to start fine, but then the video would stop while the audio continued. Frustrating, especially considering this tool exists precisely to capture interesting moments that happen to us. In theory, this has been fixed now.
Other new features in SteamOS 3.7.19
The list is completed with these new additions:
- Fixed an issue where the performance monitor sometimes showed zero for CPU power consumption.
- A problem was fixed where the audio did not always switch output correctly when connecting or disconnecting the 3,5mm headphone jack.
- A regression was corrected where certain interface elements within games could cause a drop in frame rates when appearing.
- A problem was fixed where the frame limiter interacted incorrectly with variable refresh rate (VRR) after a prolonged period.
- A problem was fixed where "Forza Horizon 4" and "Forza Horizon 5" were only showing an empty window.
