Shotcut, the open source, cross-platform video editor, launched a new stable version, the 25.07, packed with technical updates. This update seeks to improve the editing experience on Linux, macOS, and Windows systems, while maintaining its focus on accessibility and free use for users of all profiles.
On this occasion, version 25.07 arrives shortly after the previous delivery, and introduces features that make it easier to work with audio and text, as well as customize the interface.
New features and improvements in Shotcut 25.07
Among the most relevant additions are: The new Speech to Text template downloader, which allows for rapid integration of audio-to-text transcription systems thanks to support for Whisper.cpp (GGML) templates. This feature is complemented by a revamped interface, which includes new themes such as System Fusion, enriching the user's visual experience.
Another novelty is the Outline video filter, which leverages the input alpha channel and is ideal for projects with transparent backgrounds or rich text. Additionally, users now have the option to adjust audio gain directly by dragging the waveform's peak line, and to manage clip gain/volume from the timeline settings.
Optimized editing and new filters
Timeline editing has also been enhanced, allowing for more intuitive editing and trimming of fragments. A set of Soft Focus filters has been incorporated to give a more professional touch to videos, as well as the ability to define the duration of audio and video in the presentation generator, which is now set to 4 hours by default.
On the other hand, they are added significant improvements in audio processing: The balance filter now supports fader and surround mixing if there are more than two channels, the Copy Channel function accepts up to four channels, and multiple masks can be added to the Mask: Apply filters. Additionally, the use of Shift to perform ripple-trim even when the Ripple function is disabled.

Shotcut 25.07 introduces improvements to export, audio, and translations
In the export section, Bitrate control for AAC, Opus, and MP3 now works with half rate as the default. The program's compatibility has also been expanded with the addition of Canadian French and Lithuanian translations. Many audio filter functions have also received an update, with channel toggle buttons implemented for Band Pass, Compressor, Delay, and other popular filters.
This version reinforces the platform's commitment to the audiovisual community, incorporating increasingly powerful tools for both basic and advanced editing tasks.
Bug fixes and user experience
This release addresses issues related to full-range to limited conversion in 10-bit video, muted audio channels, support for iPhone 16 Pro videos that include Ambisonic audio, and issues applying crossfade filters. Issues have also been resolved when repairing projects with proxies, performing the first frame freeze of a clip, and managing masks with multiple simple shapes.
The update is now available via a universal AppImage file for Linux systems, making it easy to install on most distributions. For the full list of changes and new features, Shotcut offers its official release notes on its website.
