Kagi's Orion browser is coming soon to Linux. No news on Windows version

Orion

In the search engine sector, Google is still the king. We will have to see what happens with the new generations and AI, but for now it is like that. There are alternatives, and some paid ones, such as the one offered by kagi: no ads, no tracking, no commitments, good and deep search… but you have to pay. The company offers a web browser for Apple systems called Orion, and that browser is preparing to reach more people.

And who can it reach that would be of interest to LXA users? Sure, to Linux. As you can see in the tweet post below these lines, the work has already started, but there is nothing available. The screenshot above is nothing more than the image they offer on their official website about Manjaro, a quick and easy edition.

Orion uses the Webkit engine

Orion is currently only available for macOS and iOS. It is a browser that uses Webkit, the same engine that powers Apple's Safari, the third in a triangle that would be completed by Chromium (Chrome, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi...) and Quantum (Firefox). Like its search engine, it would not obtain usage telemetry and everything would be private. In addition, it has built-in blocker, which is currently Ublock Origin. Like Safari, it is lighter than Chromium-based browsers.

It is also important that it is compatible with Chrome and Firefox extensions. And that is why The web is largely dominated by the Chromium engine, and what is not there is in the Mozilla store. With this, it will not be due to a lack of extensions. Another thing is that it uses a different engine than Chromium, which I know most web designers design for.

One is glad to see that there are developers who They take us into account before Windows users, but are we interested in such a browser? There are users who refuse to use Vidaldi because they say it is not open source, being a half truth — only the interface is not. Orion is a completely closed browser.

Orion for Linux will be arriving in the next few months, although no release date has yet been released.
