Just over 11 months ago, Manjaro presented la Orange Pi Neo. "The" or "the" as we can refer to this device as a handheld computer or as a console. Later we could see it in action in a video of just over an hourAnd then… silence. Personally, I even thought it was going to be cancelled, but it seems that plans are still going ahead and it won’t be long before we can get one of them. Or one of them.
It has been thanks GamingOnLinux I have just heard this news. According to the aforementioned media, the Orange Pi Neo It will go on sale in the first quarter of 2025, so it would arrive in April at the latest. The last thing Phil Müller said about it was in the Manjaro thread — the operating system that he will use, more specifically in his Gaming Edition –, and among other things they had to ensure that heat dissipation was as expected.
Orange Pi Neo for $499
Phil also commented that other details to keep in mind were:
- The adjusted and optimized screen and other components are assembled into the complete machine for verification and confirmation.
- Plan to replace thin glass cover plate.
- Complete machine for assembly, verification test.
- The structure of the partially modified mold will be verified.
The intention is to offer the best possible product, and that is taking time.
But too much? We are in a market in which progress has been seen throughout this time. To give some examples, ASUS released the ROG Ally X, with better performance and autonomy, and this week what many consider a Steam Deck 2025 was presented at CES 1.5, the Lenovo Legion Go S with SteamOS.
So, it's possible that what we're offered in the end will be too little today. The price could save this device, at around $499 which could put the Orange Pi Neo below what the 512GB Steam Deck OLED costs today.
Although the only thing confirmed is that it will arrive this quarter of 2025.
