Tux and games on Linux

A few days ago we reported some encouraging news for Linux users who enjoy gaming: 90% of existing games already run on kernel systemsMuch of the blame lies with Valve, which, in its effort to distance itself somewhat from Microsoft, its most direct competitor, is developing Proton and assembling other technologies to make this possible. Today we bring you another piece of news, and that's as far as we've come on Steam.

And the This month's hardware survey This puts us above 3%. Specifically, We are at 3.05%Thanks to the recent 0.37% increase, there's a lot of variety within that 3%, to the point that the most used—on that list, which isn't the only one—is Arch Linux with 0.31% (10% of the total Linux market). Following Arch, Linux Mint has 0.2% and Ubuntu Core 0.14%. How can these figures be explained?

Steam says we're increasingly playing games on Linux.

Within Linux, SteamOS, the operating system used by the Steam Deck, holds 27.18% of the market share. I don't know why SteamOS doesn't appear on the official list, but it does on [other lists]. the Linux oneArch follows with 10.32% and Linux Mint with 6.65%.

Regarding the Linux Mint information, perhaps the YouTuber PewDiePie has something to do with it. who not long ago built a gaming PC with Linux MintSince all of this is speculation, I can't think of why Ubuntu Core is in fourth position, unless it's some kind of detection error among the many types of -buntus.

Windows remains king of gaming, holding a 94.84% market share. macOS, on the other hand, is the least used system for gaming, despite Apple's efforts to encourage it, at just 2.11%.

It's crystal clear that Windows will never relinquish its top spot, but we can expect more and more of us to play on Linux. If the Steam Deck has achieved what it has, just wait until they release the... second attempt at Steam Machines.
