Clem lefebvre posted March newsletter Linux Mint, corresponding to what happened in February 2024. Not much was said about the operating system and other topics were discussed. The first to regret that Google Adsense is being increasingly intrusive, which makes them consider making changes or eliminating all the ads on their website. Then they discussed another topic, in this case bad news, the kind that makes good the saying that "there is no evil that does not come for good."
HexChat He launched its latest version in February. It was an update that came to correct errors and to say goodbye to the community. Linux Mint uses HexChat as an IRC client, and before that it used Xchat. They have always used a client of this type of messaging because they have the project support server included, and many doubts can be resolved there. They could take over the development of HexChat as they have done, for example, with Timeshift, but it would be too much work and they are already looking at a future with Jargonaut.
Linux Mint would use Jargonaut as an IRC client
HexChat was based on GTK2 (wow, I thought only GIMP...), and they should upload it to GTK3, among other things, to make it compatible with HiDPI. Linux Mint needs a IRC client, and Jargonaut may be the winning bet. Although it uses IRC it will not be developed as an IRC client, and will support pastebin and imgur via DND, uploading system specifications, issues and many features that are not available in a normal IRC client. On the other hand, it will not allow you to join channels or use IRC commands.
An IRC client that is not an IRC client. That will be it.
Jargonaut it will be a XAPP, that is, a Linux Mint application like the aforementioned Timeshift or others like Warpinator or the web application manager. They will be especially suitable for the mint-flavored operating system, but they can be used in other distributions. They'll probably upload it to Flathub when it's ready, although it might not be worth it outside of Linux Mint.
