Linux Mint 22 will be announced this week, and you can download it now if you want

Linux Mint 22

Clem Lefebvre has published the July Linux Mint note, and he did so in July. It is unusual that it is not a fallen month, but it has only been published to inform that Linux Mint 22, codenamed "Wilma", will arrive later this week. There is no official date yet, but if we look back in time, it is likely to arrive during this weekend. Now, for those who are in a hurry, it is now available.

Clem has taken the opportunity to thank the donations received, to confirm that Linux Mint 22 will arrive this week and that shortly afterward it will publish both the information on how to update from 21.3 and that they will begin to bring everything necessary to LMDE 6, the Debian-based edition. He also states that the beta phase has been very productive and has served to fix 203 bugs.

Linux Mint 22 will arrive before August

The official announcement will be made in the coming days, but the images are already uploaded. Although I would not recommend it due to my own quirks, which make me think that these days there may be changes and new ISOs uploaded, they can be downloaded from these buttons:

When the time comes, when the launch is official, we will publish the corresponding article with the most notable news, but we can anticipate that the base Upload to Ubuntu 24.04 Noble Numbat, the kernel to Linux 6.8 and the main edition desktop will be Cinnamon 6.2. Support for flatpak packages will also be improved, with relevant information, and Nemo "Actions" will be released. As for sound, it will make the leap to PipeWire, and although it is not mentioned much, they have continued to improve in the Wayland field. It should be noted that Thunderbird will continue as a native package, no snap.

Linux Mint 22 will be supported for 5 years, until mid-2029. If you can't wait, download the new ISOs now. If you're not in a hurry, the new version of Mint is only a few days away.
