Linux Lite 7.6 arrives as a minor update to catch up

Linux Lite 7.6

In April of this year, the Linux Lite project he gave us version 7.4 of its operating system. It was a major update, and among other things, it updated its base to Ubuntu 24.04.2. Over the weekend has arrived Linux Lite 7.6, which is considered a minor update as it only contains LTS updates, bug fixes, code fixes, and UI changes.

Base aside, the most notable novelty is undoubtedly the launch of Linux Lite Wiki, a community-maintained source of knowledge about the operating system. This is important because this forum offers open collaboration, is always up-to-date, contains collective wisdom—their own words—and is easy to use. It's available at this link.

Incidentally, this is something that's also available in many other projects, even those that only deal with a popular program. The great thing about offering such a space is that it also appears when performing internet searches, and if we ask artificial intelligence like ChatGPT or DeepSeek, they'll be able to find information faster and more accurately simply because it exists.

Other news in Linux Lite 7.6

Other new features include package updates, such as:

  • Linux Kernel 6.8.0-79, with the option to download from 3.13 to 6.16.
  • Chrome 139.0.
  • Thunderbird 128.14.
  • Libre Office 25.8.1.
  • VLC 3.0.20.
  • GIMP 2.10.36.
  • Base Ubuntu 24.04.3.

As we mentioned, it's a minor update, and some of the aforementioned packages, such as VLC and GIMP, have been at the same version for months. GIMP 3.0 is already available, but Linux Lite is a somewhat conservative distribution, and they'll make the jump when they feel the software is mature enough.

Linux Lite 7.6 can now be downloaded from this link or from those listed in the release notes for this release. Existing users will be able to upgrade from previous versions.
