It's been over a year since the leaks Valve's plans to bring Android to SteamOSCurrently, it's already possible by installing third-party packages, which includes setting a sudo key for our user, but it's not the same as doing it ourselves; the integration would be better. Well, today it was announced Lepton, which will be Valve's Waydroid.
To the name It is accompanied by a logo that is somewhat reminiscent of Proton.Android is Valve's compatibility layer for running Windows games in Linux-based environments. The logo appears to be a combination of something like a proton with a frog inside, probably because frogs are often green, like the Android logo.
Lepton will be used in the Steam Frame
From here on, little is confirmed. It is known that Lepton It will allow the use of Android APKs on the Steam Frame system. (the glasses that will arrive alongside the Steam Machine), but little else. It is hoped, or rather desired, that it will allow something similar in SteamOS, the operating system of the Steam Deck and the future Machine that we will see in the first quarter of 2026. SteamDB has already opened a page about Lepton.
The architectures shouldn't be overlooked: the Steam Deck and Steam Machine use SteamOS x86_64, while the Steam Frame will rely on an ARM system. This will simplify things for the headsets, but support for handheld and desktop consoles (or PCs) isn't guaranteed. Being able to run Linux, Windows, and Android applications on the same device could be a game-changer, although this is far from confirmed.
The fact that more information is available only confirms that we'll soon see Android in Valve's ecosystem. How far the integration will go is something we'll discover in the coming months.
