How to change the language of games in PCSX2, also valid for Batocera

  • Setting PCSX2 games to your language is easy.
  • In Batocera it's not so direct, but it's also easy.

PCSX2 2.0

There is a widespread problem where, when opening a ROM in PCSX2The game appears in an unwanted language. The "glitch," which isn't really a glitch, stems from how the most popular PS2 emulator handles multi-language titles: it can choose an unexpected language because the emulator's BIOS is usually in English. In some cases, it starts in French, and in my case... batocera even in German.

What we are going to do here is explain How to tell the system which language we prefer, such as Spanish. The process indicates how to do it in Batocera, the best Linux just for playing gamesBut it also works in the standalone application; all you have to do is follow the tutorial at a more advanced point.

How to put PCSX2 games in Spanish from Batocera (and separate app)

  1. First, go to the Batocera main menu, where you'll see the console icons. F1 should appear at the bottom.

Main menu in Batocera

  1. We press F1 to enter the file explorer.
  2. Next, we need to go to the Applications section and then open pcxx2-config. This actually opens the emulator's interface.

File Browser

  1. At this point, the same procedure applies to the standalone app. Go to the "System" section and select "Run BIOS." This will launch the emulator's BIOS, which is similar to launching a PlayStation 2 without a disc.
  2. All that remains is to navigate the interface and select the language you want to use. The downside to this step is that the interface is in the original language. If you don't know that language, changing it to your own will be a bit more difficult.
  3. Using our preferred language, we close the BIOS, the file explorer, and return to the Batocera interface.

And that's it. From now on, when we use a ROM with multiple languages, including our own, the game will open in our language.

In the same section, you can tweak the general settings, something I don't usually do for the simple reason that the PS2 was released at a time when many screens had a 4:3 aspect ratio and many were already 16:9. In any case, it's worth changing the language, otherwise you might not understand anything.
