We now have a new version of the most popular free alternative to Photoshop. What's been available for just a few hours is GIMP 3.0.6, which they call a "micro-update" because it's just a single iteration with bug fixes. GNU Image Manipulation Program uses the first number as an update with major changes (3), the second indicates the development phase (0, even, which is stable; or odd, which are preliminary), and the third (6) indicates the jumps with minor improvements.
GIMP 3.0.6 has arrived just over 4 months after the v3.0.4, which, among other things and although not mentioned in the changelog, fixed the icon in the program window when running on Wayland. This release introduces a toggle for the brush and font dialogs to allow their previewers to optionally follow the scheme color, an alpha channel for certain transformations and image blending, and improved support for Photoshop brushes.
