DistroSea is the spiritual heir of DistroTestIt's a successor because it does more or less the same thing, and a spiritual one because the projects aren't related. For about three years now, DistroSea has allowed us to try out different Linux distributions from our browser, and over the months, more and more improvements have been introduced. However, be careful not to overthink DistroSea's intended purpose.
DistroSea allows you to test systems, but nothing more.
The truth is, it can do almost everything, but it's not the most reliable. Years ago, when they added internet connectivity, I wrote an article on our sister blog, Ubunlog, explaining how to use Ubuntu on any mobile phone. At the time, I explained that it didn't have sound, something that has since changed, and The performance wasn't the best we could have hoped for, but that remains the same..
Now that there's sound, and in case anyone is thinking of using Linux in their browser regularly for everyday tasks, I have to advise against it. You can, for example, open and edit a file with LibreOffice, but you can't install Kodi and watch a movie with special add-ons. Or rather, not even with standard add-ons. The performance, as we've explained, doesn't allow you to enjoy the content properly; and if that weren't a problem, then DistroSea has certain limitations, and the likelihood of it crashing after several minutes is high.
If someone is looking for something more serious, Shells would be the best.
New distributions available
The latest update has been used to add new options, most notably Fedora 44, Ubuntu 26.04 and Linux Mint 22.3 Due to their popularity, the three projects have been added. New distributions not included until now are Voyager, PikaOS, pearOS, and AerynOS.
