Clonezilla Live 3.3.0

The new edition of Clonezilla Live It is now available with the tag 3.3.0-33, an update of the well-known live system for cloning disks and partitions based on Debian, successor to the edition 3.2.2-15It comes with numerous technical improvements, tool changes, and minor tweaks designed to fine-tune the experience without altering its minimalist philosophy.

Among the highlights is the jump to the series Linux 6.16, new command-line utilities, performance optimizations, and expanded expert mode support. All of this keeps Clonezilla Live a versatile option for backups and deployments. ready to boot from USB without facilities.

Key new features in Clonezilla Live 3.3.0

The base environment has been updated against the repositories of debian-sid as of October 17, incorporating kernel 6.16 (with builds like 6.16.12-1) and improvements in the start-up, following the line of releases with Linux 6.x. The live-boot package is elevated to version 20250815, and the inclusion of the “loop” module in the initramfs is forced to ensure compatibility in complex boot scenarios.

Practical adjustments are incorporated, such as setting ethdevice-link-timeout=7 In the Live client to reduce the Ethernet link timeout, set efitextmode 0 en grub.cfg and add the CPU architecture to the file names ISO/ZIP recovery. In addition, the complete packaging command is saved in ./{live/}Clonezilla-Live-Version for informational purposes.

Clonezilla Live 3.3.0 introduces new tools and options

The set of utilities grows with ocs-blkdev-sorter, which allows udev to create Clonezilla block device aliases in /dev/ocs-disks/ by rule 99-ocs-sorted-disks.rules. It also adds ocs-live-time-sync, employed by ocs-live-netcfg for time synchronization when connected to the Internet.

Other pieces are added such as ocs-cmd-screen-sample (designed to integrate with "run again" scripts), ocs-live-gen-ubrd (merges an OCS ZIP with a bootable RAW image with U-Boot) and ocs-blk-dev-info, which provides block device information in JSON format. These features were already updated in previous versions such as 2.7.2. In the text-based interface, tools such as ocs-sr y ocs-live-feed-img incorporate the option -uoab to select Clonezilla device aliases more conveniently.

For verification tasks, the text mode menu includes the options -gb3 y -cb3 to b3sumWhile ocs-lang-kbd-conf receive the news -f y -t to fine-tune language and keyboard. In addition, ocs-iso-2-onie now handles multiple segments of mkinitramfs, expanding usage scenarios.

Usability and performance improvements

The selection of local and keymap is passed to the login shell, allowing fbterm (now the default at that stage) operate interactively on a TTY. The system automatically adjusts the font size console based on columns and rows to improve readability.

Several utilities are refined: ocs-get-dev-info offers better performance, ocs-scan-disk sorts and formats your output better, and ocs-blk-dev-info ensures compatibility with jq and gains efficiency. It is also limited ocs-cvt-dev to accept only disk types and ocs-live-swap-kernel manages modules more correctly.

If there is no Internet connection, the system can calculate the time zone from the BIOS clock, avoiding time skew in isolated or laboratory environments where external synchronization is not permitted.

Advanced Copies and Compatibility

In expert mode the image is enabled MTD and eMMC boot devices through parameters such as -smtd, -smmcb, -rmtd y -rmmcb, expanding the scenarios supported by Clonezilla Live. This is an interesting step for those working with embedded hardware or flash storage specialized.

In the presence of LVM Thin ProvisioningClonezilla now detects the configuration and chooses not to operate to avoid inconsistencies, making the limit clear on such volumes. Meanwhile, Partclone 0.3.38 comes with a correction related to btrfs, strengthening reliability in modern file systems.

Bug fixes

Fixed an issue where the option –batch did not go to the function check_image_if_restorable within ocs-functions. Additionally, image names with special characters like "(" and ")", something that used to generate rejection.

Clonezilla Live 3.3.0 Base and Packages

In addition to the aforementioned base jumping, new packages are being added to the Live environment: etc y cron (installed but disabled by default), dhcpcd-base for the network stack and upower for energy management. These additions expand the toolbox without overloading the system.

To complete the set, the language file is improved en_US, the system packaging is refined and details such as the EFI text mode effect in GRUB, seeking a more consistent experience across different firmwares and hardware.

Download and availability

Clonezilla Live 3.3.0-33 can be downloaded now from its official website for systems 64 bitsAs usual, it runs live from a USB drive, without the need to install anything on the PC and keeping the target disks intact until the user decides to act.

This release accumulates a good number of technical adjustments and utilities that polish the daily experience: from the kernel 6.16 and the Debian Sid foundation to new interface options and performance and compatibility improvements, making it a sensible upgrade for those using Clonezilla in cloning, deployment, or restoration environments.
